Sensys Networks has launched MultiSens Intersection at ITS World Congress, introducing the industry’s first unified traffic detection platform that fuses video AI and wireless sensor technologies into a single system.
The solution eliminates the longstanding trade-off between comprehensive intersection analysis and reliable advance detection.
“Traffic engineers have been stuck choosing between technologies that each do one thing well,” says Brian Fuller, president at Sensys Networks. “Video AI excels at scene analysis at the intersection but struggles with advance detection. Wireless sensors provide reliable advance detection but don’t provide the visual element. MultiSens Intersection eliminates this compromise through true sensor fusion in a unified platform.”
MultiSens Intersection combines deep-learning video analytics at the intersection with wireless in-road sensors for advance and midblock detection. The system processes data from both technologies simultaneously, not as separate systems, delivering unprecedented accuracy for signal actuation and traffic analysis.
Key innovations include multimodal detection capabilities where video AI identifies vehicles and vulnerable road users such as motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, and pedestrians across all approach lanes simultaneously. The system provides advance detection without infrastructure requirements, as wireless sensors deliver precise, lane-specific detection without nearby power, communications, or direct line-of-sight, eliminating the need for trenching.
The platform offers accuracy and reliability through video AI with deep learning that filters adverse weather and lighting conditions, while wireless sensors remain immune to rain, snow, fog, and glare. Unified management is achieved through a single software platform that eliminates the complexity of managing separate vendor systems, simplifying setup, diagnostics, and ongoing management.
The system is scalable and future-ready, as it can be deployed with core detection capabilities and expanded over time to include advanced analytics, automatic incident detection, and adaptive signal control.
