Transportation agencies can avoid lengthy lane closures while installing, replacing, or even relocating traffic detection with FlexMag3 EZ-Out.

Sensys Networks’ recent introduction of FlexMag3 EZ-Out addresses a key challenge in traffic management: simplifying detection installation, maintenance, and replacement. This innovation can greatly improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness for transportation agencies.

A new solution for an old need

The EZ-Out system builds upon the existing FlexMag3 sensor, redesigned from the ground up for greater durability and rapid deployment. The new system incorporates a revolutionary EZ-Out cup and clip design. This enables swift sensor removal and replacement without requiring extensive roadworks or disrupting traffic flow.

The cup uses minimal epoxy for secure installation and the top ring secures the sensor with clips, eliminating the need for additional epoxy once in place. The result is a traffic detection sensor that can be deployed in under five minutes, instead of the hours it can take to install inductive loops.

Traditional inductive loop sensors have been the mainstay of traffic detection for decades. However, they can be expensive to install, maintain, and replace. While the loops themselves are inexpensive, the road work needed for installation can be costly. Plus, the need for extensive cutting and trenching during installation requires lane closures and disrupts traffic flow. Loops also break easily from wear and tear caused by traffic and are completely destroyed when a road is repaved.

Detection that moves

A major advantage of the EZ-Out system is its ability to be removed and reinstalled intact during road repaving projects. This feature also enables FlexMag3 sensors to be relocated – temporarily for work zones or permanently for redesigned road infrastructure. Agencies can protect their detection investments while allowing for continued traffic detection during road maintenance.

The speed and efficiency that EZ-Out enables for replacing or relocating traffic detection not only cuts down on installation costs but also reduces the time workers are exposed to potential road hazards, enhancing work zone safety. This also empowers agencies to minimize traffic disruptions and maintain traffic detection operations – both of which help to keep traffic flowing.

In addition, the FlexMag3 sensor itself is robust – engineered to withstand harsh conditions and heavy traffic. The sensor features redundant layers of protection – with the circuitry potted inside a silicone cup and surrounded by a sealed outer shell that comes pre-encased in epoxy. The end product is seamless and solid, potentially lasting as long as the pavement itself.

The FlexMag3 EZ-Out system presents a significant advancement in traffic sensor technology. By streamlining installation and enabling greater flexibility for replacement and relocation this detection solution offers substantial benefits for transportation agencies seeking to optimize traffic management operations.
